The mainstream media and Hollywood and are not the only places we find Fake News. Unfortunately, it is embedded right across America and online, in every quarter, even areas you might not expect. It has infested just about everything. For example, I saw a Lefty on a discussion board putting up a post to show that Trump caused a coal company to go broke. That made no sense at all since Trump is revitalizing the coal industry, yet many Lefties applauded the post, sneering and scoffing at Trump for wrecking the coal industry. What madness.
Let’s take a look at how Fake News achieved this. West Virginia Public Broadcasting published the article in question here (backup here). Its headline reads:
Second Major Coal Company Declares Bankruptcy During Trump Presidency
Brittany Patterson, from the Ohio Valley ReSource, wrote it, Oct 11, 2018. If you scroll down to the bottom and click ‘about us,’ it takes you here:
The Ohio Valley ReSource is a regional journalism collaborative reporting on economic and social change in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. With support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting…
If you scroll down further, you see their eight staff are journalists, all of whom believe in man-made climate change and oppose Trump. The Federal Government runs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). See what Trump promised to do about the CPB from ‘The Hill’, Feb 12, 2018, eight months earlier:
President Trump’s newly proposed budget includes a proposal to end federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), part of a package that includes $300 billion in new spending overall. CPB provides federal funding for PBS and National Public Radio stations. The Budget proposes to eliminate Federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) over a two year period.
It explains their Fake News article, blaming Trump for the decline of the Coal Company. Now we can return to the original piece. Scroll down to the sixth paragraph, which reads:
Many coal-fired power plants in the region and beyond are retooling to burn cleaner natural gas and many utilities are closing older coal-burning power plants.
The words ‘retooling to burn cleaner natural gas’ have a link. Clicking it takes you here.
The headline says, “Paradise Cost: Coal, Natural Gas, And The True Price Of Power.” Notice it was written July 14, 2017. Scrolling down reveals a photo of the new gas facility, with a caption that reads, “TVA’s new gas fired facility, with the older coal units in background.”
The gas-fired facility existed in July 2017.
How long did it take to build? Before the building, how long did it take to plan, receive permission, authorization, planning permits, and organize all other red and green tape? Remember, Trump began his Presidency on Jan 20, 2017, just six months earlier.
Photos of the plant in question, the TVA Allen Combined Cycle, may be seen here, with more information at Wikipedia here.
Wikipedia says:
In 2014, it was announced by TVA that a $975 million natural gas plant would be constructed.
That was three years before Trump became POTUS and a year before he announced he would run for the job. So whose fault was it that coal had failed? Obama was President from 2009 to 2017. His administration was against coal and did its best to close down as many coal power stations as possible, so this was entirely his doing.
How long does it take a coal company to declare bankruptcy? Many years. When Lefties are in charge, they make it very hard for all companies, especially power companies. They will use any excuse in the book to choke them with red and green tape, raise their taxes, and ultimately make them go broke. The process is lengthy. By the time it comes about, and they sign the papers and declare bankruptcy, there may be a new President in power who had nothing to do with the events leading to the bankruptcy. Trump just happened to be POTUS when the bankruptcy reached its final stage. He was an innocent bystander.
Now let us return to the original page.
CPB-funded journalist Brittany Patterson wrote an anti-Trump Fake News item blaming Trump for the coal company’s bankruptcy. Her headline read:
Second Major Coal Company Declares Bankruptcy During Trump Presidency
She went on to say:
Many coal-fired power plants in the region and beyond are retooling to burn cleaner natural gas and many utilities are closing older coal-burning power plants.
She didn’t tell you that this process was well underway while Obama was President and that it was his administration that caused the damage to the coal industry. Trump is fixing all that damage, but again, it takes time.
So who is this knucklehead, Brittany Patterson?
